ASTRADOMES Communication Strategy to Strengthen the Domestic Workers’ Movement in Costa Rica

Organization: ASTRADOMES

In an effort to enhance visibility and secure recognition of domestic workers’ rights, in January of this year, ASTRADOMES (Association of Domestic Workers of Costa Rica) developed a comprehensive communication strategy to be implemented in three phases: short, medium, and long term. This strategy aims to ensure effective, coherent communication aligned with the organization’s goals, with an inclusive and sustainable approach.

Short-Term Objectives: Training and Updating Tools
In the short term, ASTRADOMES will focus on establishing a solid foundation for digital communication. Key actions include:

  • Defining key messages: An internal document will be created outlining the organization’s core messages, aligned with its mission and vision, and consistent with the political advocacy strategies promoted by ASTRADOMES.

  • Quick training: Practical workshops will be organized to train the team in social media management and basic graphic design tools, ensuring that all members can actively participate in spreading the organization’s messages.

  • Website update: Priority will be given to quick-access sections such as “Frequently Asked Questions,” “Rights and Duties,” and “Key Achievements,” improving the accessibility and usability of the ASTRADOMES website.

Medium-Term Strategies: Visibility and Strategic Alliances

In the medium term, ASTRADOMES will focus on increasing the organization’s visibility and strengthening relationships with key allies:

  • Awareness campaigns: Activities will be organized in rural and urban communities, supported by visual and radio materials to raise public awareness about the demands and rights of domestic workers.

  • Newsletter: A quarterly newsletter will be launched, available both digitally and in print, providing clear information about the organization’s achievements, events, and services.

  • Strategic alliances: ASTRADOMES will seek to establish partnerships with universities, community radio stations, key institutions, and national media outlets to enhance dissemination of its work and increase its societal impact.

Long-Term Strategies: Sustainability and Impact Measurement

In the long term, the organization will focus on sustaining its actions and evaluating the impact of its strategies:

  • Incorporating specialized human resources: A Community Manager will be hired or trained internally to professionally manage ASTRADOMES’ digital communication.

  • Leadership strengthening: An internal program will be created to develop new female leaders within the organization, ensuring equitable distribution of strategic responsibilities.

  • Impact measurement: Clear metrics will be established to assess the reach and effectiveness of communication strategies, allowing adjustments to ensure long-term success.

Commitment to Inclusion and Transparency

These communication strategies not only seek to strengthen ASTRADOMES’ visibility but also to ensure greater inclusion of domestic workers in public and political spaces. Through these actions, the organization aims to generate a positive impact locally and nationally, promoting social justice and respect for the rights of domestic workers in Costa Rica.
